Technology

[tek-nol-uh-jee]

1. the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.

2. the application of this knowledge for practical ends.

Technology is changing the way meetings professionals plan their meetings and events. From registration platforms to onsite mobile apps, technology is designed to simplify processes and enhance attendee experience. In this Education Essentials, we'll explore technology trends to keep on your radar and resources for capitalizing on new innovations to earn optimal ROI.

The Show Must Go On!

Technology can be our best friend or perceived as a most frustrating foe. When the closing keynote was unable to attend the FICP 2019 Winter Symposium due to extreme weather conditions, FICP hosted a live virtual keynote that included video conference with live Q&A. If ever presented with a similar hurdle, remember to involve your stakeholders, utilize the experts, be open to failure, and most importantly, remain calm. Read more.

Top Tech Trends of 2019

FICP Education Committee member, Barbara Scofidio, explores trends in meeting technology, travel technology and Big Data in meetings in a series of recent Prevue Meetings articles. This year's meeting technology trends are all about new uses for the tools already familiar to most meetings professionals. Examples include using drones as mobile hotspots, implementing the use of chatbots as personnel, broadcasting live events and more. Read more about these trends here.

Travel technology predictions for 2019 include integrating Alexa to track travel, use of airport robots, Internet of Things-enabled cities that adjust to residents, and more. Read about these travel trends here.

Big Data is a hot topic in most industries. Learn more about how Big Data is impacting meetings with the use of blockchain technologies reducing the need for third-party tools, new distribution capability (NDC) allowing companies to build a better picture of corporate travel spend, and machine learning playing an integral role in booking meetings and travel.

Have you encountered any up-and-coming technology trends at meetings or events? Share it on TheNetwork in Barbara's discussion thread, Technology Trends for Low Budget Meetings.
