Technology

[tek-nol-uh-jee]

  1. a science or industrial process, etc.
  2. invention, method or the like

Using technology in the right way can help create a memorable and efficient event. It’s important to specify that the technology should be used in the right way because, ultimately, you want to enhance the experience for your event attendees, not complicate it. Unfortunately, this can be more difficult than you might think. In this Education Essentials, we’ll provide some suggestions for how you can effectively incorporate technology into your event planning and create an experience that will spark conversation and inspiration.

Tasteful Tech: Trends in Event Technology

With great technology comes great responsibility. Let’s face it, the technological advancements of today can be hard to fully understand. This article from BizBash identifies the newest technology to use during the lifespan of an event – before, during and after – as well as provides a sneak peek at emerging technology that will have a big impact at future events.

“One challenge for meeting planners is how to sort through the blizzard of information they have coming at them so they can make the right choices,” said Corbin Ball, a meetings technology expert and owner of Corbin Ball & Co. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of the tech advancements in the events industry, check out this Skift article in which meeting planners weigh in on state of meetings technology today.

FICP Short: Tech Trends with Shawn Cheng

This FICP short from Shawn Cheng defines disruptive technology and why you should be paying attention to it in 2018.

Tactical Tech Tips from FICP

These session notes from the 2017 FICP Annual Conference Idea Exchange and the 2017 Fall Symposium Tech Idea Exchange provide some case studies that highlight what technologies members of the FICP community have been implementing in their events.

One of the first things that comes to mind when thinking about technology in events is mobile apps. But if a mobile app isn’t executed well, it can leave attendees feeling disgruntled and frustrated with your event as a whole. This blog post from Cindy Y. Lo and Katera Berent of Red Velvet Events, a Global DMC Partner, breaks down what your mobile event app may be missing.

As meeting technology becomes an essential element at events, meetings professional have a whole new set of variables to consider when determining what venue best fits their meeting goals. But how do you know which questions to ask during a site inspection? This Smart Meetings article provides a helpful checklist of questions to ask when assessing a venue for tech appropriateness. If getting a cost estimate helps provide more clarity for you, check out this event bandwidth estimator from the Events Industry Council.

At this year’s Education Forum in June, Meeting U President James Spellos will present two sessions on technology-related topics: Hot Technologies 2018 and The Ultimate Tech Hackathon: Productivity Tools to Use Technology More Effectively. #TBT - Rocketbooks

Home Image

FICP-branded Rocketbooks were given out at the Summer and Fall Symposia in 2017. These smart notebooks connect and store your notes and lists in the cloud using an app. And – no joke – you can reuse your book several times by using a Pilot FriXion pen and erasing the pages in the microwave.
