Partnerships

[pahrt-ner-ship]

1. the state or condition of being a partner; participation; association; joint interest.

2. an association of persons joined as partners in business.

Partnerships are the cornerstone of every successful business. They're the resources you need to book speakers, create unforgettable meeting experiences for your attendees, and execute your meeting or event effectively. Understanding how to build a healthy business partnership will benefit you in the long run. In this Education Essentials, you'll learn how to effectively work and collaborate with DMCs and speaker bureaus, how you can benefit from FICP's industry partnerships, tips for building a successful partnership, and more.

Recognizing FICP's Partnerships

Better Together: How to Find and Maintain the Right DMC Partnership for Your Company

Financial and insurance services meetings professionals should all know how valuable DMCs can be, having all worked with them countless times to create great events and meeting experiences. But if you want to create truly unique and unforgettable meeting experiences for your attendees, consider turning to DMCs as a partner for next-level event strategizing and optimal meeting execution. Read this blog post to learn how Cindy Y. Lo, DMCP and Kendra Heredia's partnership has ensured the success of NORCAL Group events.

Our Partnerships Are Your Partnerships

FICP’s partnerships with industry organizations allow us to deliver additional value to our community of meetings professionals and hospitality partners through both access to new content and opportunities to showcase and build thought leadership within the industry. The latter is one of the top priorities of FICP’s Influence Committee, which is tasked with establishing partnerships that support those objectives. Here is an example of one of these successful new partnerships with the U.S. Travel Association.

Speaker Bureaus

Last month, FICP speaker bureau and entertainment partners shared some of their favorite speakers and performers. We also asked them about how a meetings professional can maximize their partnership with a bureau/agency. Common themes include asking for recommendations early in your planning process, communicating on event goals and themes, and including everything from prep call requests to book signings to meet-and-greet appearances in the initial offer letter or contract. Read on for more tips to collaborate for success.

Tips on Partnerships

It's no secret that partnerships add value to your business. Set your partnerships up for success and establish a clear set of expectations, consider them a valued member of the team, allow them room to grow, and maintain a level of honesty and transparency. Read more on these tips for building a successful partnership and check out this article for key lessons for strong business partnerships, which include having clear partnership agreements in place and thinking about how the partnership can be mutually beneficial.

It's also important to think about your most important partnership of all: your employees. Here is an effective approach for recognizing your employees, such as making sure feedback is timely, context is provided for how they impact the business and that the recognition is authentic, not automatic.

#TBT - Contingency Planning and Partnerships

At the 2018 FICP Winter Symposium, attendees heard from Joan L. Eisenstodt, Principal at Eisenstodt Associates, LLC, during her session, Event Disruptions: Planners & Business Partners Prepare for Contingencies. During the session, she shared how meetings professionals can think more critically about meeting and event contingency planning, and how they can better prepare to partner with others to provide necessary resources to manage contingencies. For more from Joan, check out this article on how to network and ethically do business in a relationship industry.
