2009 Education Forum

More than 150 financial services and insurance professionals attended the 2009 FICP Education Forum at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Education Forum featured 25 speakers in general and breakout sessions, including keynote presentations from Dr. Janet Lapp, who discussed leading during change, and Lynne Lancaster, who covered engaging a multigenerational workforce. Colleen Rickenbacher served as the event’s emcee, with assistance from Kim Boriin, FICP VP, Education. Included this year was a general session on the State of the Industry featuring a panel of experts. One attendee remarked, “This was a great session that provided value to both planners and hospitality partners. It was a great overview of what is going on in our industry and gave insight into the future.”

The evening events provided additional networking opportunities and showcased the venues of The Broadmoor and Cheyenne Mountain Resort. In addition, Monday night’s reception hosted FICP’s first-ever community giveback event. The event provided the opportunity for conference attendees to play miniature golf with children from The Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region, prior to hosting an auction for their benefit that raised close to $2,000.

The item auctioned was a Colorado Vacation, including a four-night stay, two roundtrip air tickets and daily breakfast. In addition to the funds raised, attendees donated non-perishable food items that were included in 200 backpacks given to the Boys and Girls Club by FICP. As part of the program, FICP invited the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year, Michael Hamamoto, to speak before the live auction. Hamamoto won the auction when guests at his table gave him the winning bid. He plans to use the air tickets to attend his college orientation this summer at Stanford University.

Even the meal selections provided a learning opportunity for meeting planners. Learn about the "Field to Fork Dinner" and "Colorado Mixed Grill" meals.

On closing day of the conference, the dates and location for the 2010 FICP Education Forum were announced. Mark your calendar now for June 16-18, 2010 to join FICP at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark in St. Louis, MO.
