FICP Winter Symposium Wrap-Up

FICP recently wrapped up the 2016 Winter Symposium, where more than 100 planners and hospitality partners gathered at the historic Omni Parker House to ring in 2016 with education and networking.
The event offered a mix of general sessions, breakouts and interactivity to appeal to all learners. Kicking off the Symposia’s educational program was keynote speaker Ingrid Lindberg, who shared her insights into customer experience, stemming from 20 years as a business disrupter. Other education sessions focused on engagement marketing, contracting, and professional confidence. Panel sessions took a deep dive into upcoming event trends and a financial services and insurance industry update. Click here to access presentation materials from the event.
Networking opportunities were in full-swing throughout the event, beginning with Sunday evening’s welcome reception at the Omni Parker House. Monday also brought ample opportunity to connect during the evening event at Coppersmith. Here, guests experienced a dynamic new neighborhood restaurant.

Membership Renewal and Directory Advertising Sales

In order to be included in the 2016 FICP Directory, planner members and hospitality partners must renew by February 29.
The printed version of the popular FICP Directory is sent to current members each June and includes detailed contact information. This valuable resource helps members and hospitality partners stay connected throughout the year.

How to Renew

Simply log in to the FICP website and click on "My Transactions" to access your invoice.

A variety of advertising opportunities are available for the 2016 membership directory. Hospitality partners interested in advertising can learn more by contacting FICP Relationship Manager Jack Gage.

2016 CMP Test Dates

  • November 4-13, 2016 -- CMP and CMP-HC
The Department of Labor (DOL) is expected to release the final version of a rule that will lead to some big changes in the financial services industry, which could also impact the travel industry. Under the proposed rule, retirement advisors will need to meet new guidelines to show they are acting in their clients’ best interests. As a result, commissions and incentives could be changed, eliminated or require conflict of interest disclosures. For more information on the proposed DOL rule, read here.
Because this ruling may affect several FICP members, the association has been working with U.S. Travel’s government relations team to track the issue. Last week, the House Education and Workforce Committee approved two bills that would prevent the rule from becoming final while also putting an alternative oversight regime in place. Given the political dynamics surrounding the rule and the upcoming elections, legislative efforts to stop the bill – prior to its implementation – are not expected to succeed.
We will continue to monitor and provide updates about the timeline, content of the final rule and what it means for the industry. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any questions at info@ficpnet.com
