February 2014

With Valentine’s Day just last week, we wanted to take a moment to share the love and appreciation we have for you – our planner members and hospitality partners. We appreciate your commitment, whether it's attending a conference, serving as an FICP volunteer, participating in TheNetwork, or any of the several ways to get involved with FICP. We look forward to sharing 2014 with you.

FICP Winter Symposium Wrap-Up

The first of FICP’s three-part Symposia series, FICP Winter Symposium, drew attendees from all over to connect and learn at the Conrad New York. Attendees heard from Actor, PBS TV Host and UN Emcee Chris Bashinelli, who shared his colorful story of international travel in the opening keynote, participated in a rousing panel discussion on hot industry topics, and received a lesson on bandwidth from Jim Spellos of Meeting U., just to name a few highlights.

Did you attend Winter Symposium? The 2014 FICP Winter Symposium offered 6.5 credit hours toward CMP designations. Click here for the meeting agenda and session receipt to submit CMP credits.

Meetings (Still!) Mean Business: Updated CIC Economic Significance Study

Last week, the Convention Industry Council (CIC) released updates to its Economic Significance Study, and the news is looking good! A few highlights, by the numbers:

  • 1.83 million: Meetings in the US in 2012
  • 225 million: People attended those meetings
  • 1.7 million: Jobs created by those meetings
  • $115 billion: Direct impact on U.S. GDP (an increase of 9% over 2009)
Read the executive summary here. FICP Planner Members and Hospitality Partners may read the full report in TheNetwork (login required).

Spice Up Your Year at the 2014 FICP Education Forum

Join us at the 2014 FICP Education Forum, taking place June 18-20 at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans. Attendees will “Think it up, Live it up and Jazz it up,” as they enjoy the rich culture of New Orleans, absorb important industry information and connect with peers and colleagues. Registration for the 2014 FICP Education Forum will open in March. We hope to see you in New Orleans!
